How do you do? My name is Su.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Recently I finally purchased a Bobobie Ariel from The Junkyspot. I'd been admiring her for ages but had other dolls that I needed to attend to first. She came with a face-up, but I wasn't interested in that ~ I wanted her to be white and reflecting my passion for red and black colour combinations. She arrived and it was time to take the plunge and a passle of firsts:

~ Scrubbing off a perfectly good face-up.
~ Taking a doll apart entirely and giving it a good wash
~ Doing a face-up on something bigger than a cherry tomato
~ Re-stringing a doll.

The first took a bit of elbow grease but I didn't hesitate. I had no interest in the make-up she arrived with.

Taking the doll apart (you saw the bits in another post)....well that had me pause for a moment but hey ~ this is her role in my life...to be a teacher.

The face-up was interesting....acrylics and chalk pastels ~ numerous layers of Mr. Super Clear to as I added to her. I learned a lot once more about face painting ~ to dos and what not to do...

Re-stringing her. OH BOY. Oh boy oh boy oh boy...

Now I am not a complete idiot, and make sure to draw up a diagram of what goes where when I am taking something apart but even that doesn't guarentee that I've paid attention.

Like the fact that I put the upper arms on the wrong side so I had elbows going the wrong way...and meant unstringing and re-stringing.

Or the fact that after I'd REstrung her a 2nd time I realized the hands were now on the wrong side.

....My teens were impressed that I just sighed and took her apart again and then started the odeous job of threading elastics through narrow tubes again....with tension. As I told them...it's MY hobby and I'd better pay attention and learn from my mistakes because NO one is going to do it for me.

Third time was the charm and by this point I had the basics down cold ~ on clamping the elastic and passing it through narrow spaces. I was in a zone so to speak...and the end result(aside form my pretty little girl back together) is that I've learned that re-stringing isn't the daunting nightmare for me it was when I started this exercise....

This is Su ~ her name is that of the ancient Basque Fire spirit. Eventually her sister Mizu will arrive and I'll be painting up a Water spirit. As of yet we have no clothes ...so cheese cake will have to suffice :)
