Friday night I went to a girlfriends home for a *chick-flick night* and we watched Mama Mia.
Now as much as I lurv ABBA I just have trouble wrapping my head around either Meryl Streep or Pierce Brosnen prancing around singing...and that wasn't just the whiskey causing my brain to pop into WTF mode.
Couldn't they have made that with *non* big names? It would have worked much better for me I think.
Saturday was Teh Sprogs'hoop tourie in Toronto and it was hosted in the MOST amazing sports facility I have ever seen ~ a former military aircraft hangar. HOLY WOW this is THE BEST re-use of a de-comissioned building I have seen in my LIFE! TONS of natural light, ceilings that go upward forEVAH ~it holds inside no less than 2 FULL soccer fields, 4 practice fields, a Roller-hockey/lacrosse rink, 2 full sand volleyball pits, and 4 full hoop courts plus 3 smaller ones....all with plenty of seating, washrooms/changerooms etc.
HOLY BLEEP it's BRILLIANT!!!! For once the government has done something not only RIGHT but really WELL! :)
Anyway ~ we left early and got back late ~ in the middle there were 2 games (they won both and the boys are back off to T.O. for the semi's today)...and I got to a Chinese grocery store and stocked up on sacks of Nishiki rice, found my favorite condiment to go with it, scored some candies for Wil & shrimp chips for me. We also has sushi for lunch and because we had time to kill late in the day, went to see Paul Blart - Mall Cop, at the theatre.
The film was stupid but not as stupid as it thought it would be. Bob got his nap,Wil was happy and I was mildy entertained for 1 1/2 hours. Nuf said.
I also had the chance to finish book 7 of that series I'm reading.
I think I confused the other kids parents by reading before and during the games (except when my son played)....sorry but my eye glaze over during sports. The only time I haven't read during a basketball game was when The Bob forbade me to bring a book to an NBA game... since we had floor seats and he didn't think he could handle having to explain why his wife was seen on national television with her nose in a book when two rows away the Raptors were getting their ass handed to them by another team. >D
Needless to say he finally gave up and now finds others to go to games with him or saves himself the money & goes alone :P
Anyway ~ one of the parents asked me after the last game if I'd finished the book and I smiled and said *as a matter of fact I did!* ...they couldn't say anything but politely nod & return a curious smile since I seemed so pleased with myself. Well heck it was an exciting chapter in the ongoing series! XD
Can't wait till March for the next book in paperback :)
Thing is though, with the reading at games ~ as the coach's wife I don't WANT to get friendly with the other parents. I've been a Coach's wife and parent of a kid on a team for over a decade and that means I know full well what kind of politicing goes on with sports parents ~ and don't want to get dragged into the catfights and bitching that starts to grow as some kids don't get playing time (it's a club team after all not touchy feel-good, everyone plays regardless of talent houseleague) or the team doesn't win.
I keep every single one of them at arms length and reading proclaims that I'm not interested so leave me out of it. I don't want to hear it. I don't give a rats ass how the team does and how your little Jimmy feels about only playing one shift because he doesn't show up to practice or turns the ball over 14 times in a row. You're kid isn't going to be the next Steve Nash so calm the bleep down and let me read my book in peace.
Helicopter & sports parents drive me nuts. Only thing worse is the combination of the two.....*shudders*
