We've had THE big melt ~ which will probably be followed by THE big snow...again.
The sun isn't up yet but from the sound of rain on the windows and the 60km+/hr winds tossing the garbage cans up against the house I can surmise that we are in Mudsville till the temperatures drop once more.
I stepped out of my bedroom to find that all the baskets of clean laundry were in the hallway upstairs ~ how unusual for my children to volunteer to do that.
I make my way to the kitchen...my mind slowing unwinding from sleep and a *ping* goes off in my head. I pad down another set of stairs to the laundryroom in the basement and find the carpet is squishy at the entrance to that room.
Yeah that explains the laundry baskets on the landing....
The furnace room is for the most part dry. Only the portion of the floor where the toilet was removed is remotely damp and even that isn't problematic. The laundry room is slightly lower and the seepage is up through the floor, not from the walls (THANK the GODS for that)...but it's not high tide. I can jump on the concrete and nothing oozes up menacingly through the cracks in the middle of the room...excellent. It's wet, but not a river. I decided to have a cuppa coffee and wait. I'll haul out the retchedly noisy wet-vac when the family wakes up and deal with it later in the morning.
I've never really lost the habit of keeping dry, dirty laundry sorted in big plastic bins (too many floods in that room to let that practice fall to the side)...even my pile of throw rugs is elevated 2' off the ground on a bucket so they aren't a sopping 2 tonne mess *whew*
*checks weather forecast*
Good ~ whatever rain that is supposed to fall ends this morning...followed by days of sunshine! *^__^* Then we can all glory in the mud!
Next up...washing the front hallway floors on a daily basis. >__
