Everytime I have tried to sit down and cobble a few stray thoughts together for a post in the past two days, I've had my attention (if not entire body) hijacked and diverted elsewhere by a family member.
A random thought that was floating across my grey-matter: This week two more people from my youth (as in elementary and high school) have sent out tendrils from the dreaded internet weed;Facebook.
I stared at them for a moment, snorted before moving on, thinking that I really need to grow a pair and just delete that blasted account. I'm another step closer to doing just that after I read THIS.
I made sure to vent my opinion in the general direction of my teens, who are the real users of Facebook around here and the only reason I have one.
I've given up trying to convince my peers of the privacy issues involved with the place, since they are all so eager to share pictures of their DNAlings with strangers on the internet ~ Make NO mistake...just because we shared Oreos & Milk in grade 3, doesn't make us close. They don't know me and it bothers me that they would assume they do and be willing to data dump without pausing to question...well ...anything.
Their net-naivite aside, now that Facebook is starting to sneak nasty little policies in the back door I'm even questioning leaving a few arty photos hanging around and think it's best to just pull out entirely..
A lot of artists are doing just that apparently. It's one thing to acknowledge that putting your stuff online is like putting it on a postcard and just firing it off into the unknown ~ it's something else entirely to have a third party claim the right to distribute images and information after you have taken them down from view.
