Before I dash outta here to take Teh Sprog to his soccer tournie, I thought I'd give a rec for possibly the most distrubing but timely comic books series I have EVER READ.

Seriously folks ~ even if you have to beg, borrow or steal it, I can not emphasize strongly enough how important writer, Brian Wood and artist, Riccardo Burchielli's current work;DMZ is.

If you are an American. READ. THIS. COMIC.

It will freaking blow your mind & leave your brains splattered on the wall behind you. Holy Shite. Holy f**k. Holy omg why did I ever resist my friend (uni lit. prof) Andy's advice to read this?

Absorbing. Though provoking. Shite disturbing. CURRENT.

[info]sildil if not for the library hun, scope this out for yourself. I'm still moping my grey matter up and I can't wait for the next volume to arrive. EVERY TEENAGER ON THE PLANET and their PARENTS should read this!!!!!...geez this thing should br required reading in school!!!
  • With a recommendation like that, I am unable to resist, I have just ordered it!
    • I totally approached this thing as a skeptic.

You need to read the *forwards* in each book....they are some of the best I've come across in a while and are delightfully filled with snark...brilliant stuff.

That aside ~ I opened the first volume expecting NOTHING. Chapter one...lalalalala...chapter 2....hmmmm...chapter thee....*doesn't notice that time is up on the stationary bike program and I'm just sitting there reading*

By the time I was nose-buried in volume 3, while on the sidellines of my son
s soccer/football game...I was shaking my head saying aloud...'on NO...on ononoononNO....this is better than Citizen CANE'.....as other parents stared at me and wondered *wtf is she doing reading comics during her kids game?*

I'll tell you want I was reading...something I could not put down but made me want to throw away and hide under a rock at the same time.

If you don't like it....(and your kids...omg yes they will)....I will be damned surprised.
  • DMZ

    Hey Pira, Kathy here.

I hope I am doing this thing right. DMZ looks interesting, and I will see if Amazon has it.

What is forbidden fruit? a webzine?
    • Re: DMZ

*^___^* yes you are....got the message.

Amazon should definately have it. I think it is a very timely little read if you are a politically aware American ....and have no love for the current occupants of the White House and their money grubbing, self-serving ways.

      *cough*

AND Forbiddenfruit is a webzine, yes. I'm a contributing artist to it ...it's all sort of ...gay. ~__^

I am friend with one of the artists and occasional writer. It's a way to force myself to draw ...a challenge of sorts, because you never know what you are getting handed. All voluntariy of course , just for fun.
  • Book one's been sitting on my coffee table for months and months. Now I HAVE to read the thing.
    • I want to know your opinion on this.

I am just a consumer....I react with gut feel as a layperson who loves the medium. You on the other hand have a far deeper perspective on this medium.

Funny thing though...when I was reading it I kept thinking....*has anyone optioned this into a tv series?...this would make a great series!!*

      • No, no TV projects in the foreseeable future for DMZ, or any other Vertigo titles. Vertigo is imprinted from DC Comics and DC is owned by Warner Bros. Studio. Warners is as of now petrified with indecision over how to develop their comic book projects, and so every book in their stable is suffering in captivity in limbo land.

        Kill me now.
        • ......oh for *bleeps* sake.

Why am I not surprised that they are going to sit on this until it's totally unsellable rather than striking when the climate....and item is hot.

          ARGH!
