The postman left a box today and I forgot entirely that it's contents was slowly making it's way across the Pacific to me.

The contents were a pair of chairs....for dolls of course.

The are a fantastic red pair ...modern faux leather and ridiculously reasonable....and 1/6 sized.

I pounced on them when HobbyLinks was doing their inventory and listed them.....and I seem to have bought the last pair.

Anyway...since I was in a *why the heck not * mindset, I photographed opening them with...a doll.

Dude has been sitting on my scanner for a while now. I've been practicing posing him in natural positions. I place two boxes on the table beyond the pc desk...he goes to investigate.

Walks past my stash of chocolate (hidden in plain sight I might add)

Takes a leap of faith from the small caddy to the sewing table

Makes it.

Investigates the boxes....

Peeks through the wrapper..."They're...CHAIRS!!!!"

"Um....so...are they for the ladies?"

"They're for us... GUYS?!!"

"She bought US chairs".....

..."sob"...

"Are you sure you didn't make a mistake and want to give these to the gals??

"I profusely apologize for every nasty thing MONK ever said about you...."

  • *is laughing too hard to comment further*
    • *heh*....well that certainly is the intent ...to get a grin :)

Seriously...these little critters are too much fun for engaging one's creative side in mulitple mediums. I apologize in advance for the future doll spam >D
  • Your boy has HUGE ... hands. Hopefully it wasn't a very hot day because naked "skin" on leather has to be a touch uncomfortable if it's a really hot day.

    Loved the unboxing drama. :)
    • It reminds me of some manga-ka ...the way the hands just appear outrageously huge...having said that, they are proportional to the bodies. If they were any smaller they'd look really odd....

...I am learning a lot about these dolls by lurking in the forum (that is not geared to one kind of doll) and in particular when they start talking about why they use a particular part on a given body. There is also a neat chart that compares sizes of verious models of 1/6 sized dolls that helps a person visualize all this stuff ....but having said that...yeah, it's sort of like having a pair of Shuiko Kano boys on my desk!!! >D

...and as for the neked buttox on the *leather*...heh...yeah the fundoshi happened not long after I took those shots. Need to work on some other clothes for them too .
  • AHAHAHAHAHAAH! Priceless! I SO enjoy these dramas!
    • Why thank you my dear >D

I am certainly engrossed in reliving my childhood that never was and am having a hellagood time playing with them *^___^*
  • Haha! I know this lovely boy from Dreamland! It's great to see you exploring the personalities on your dolls (and Dude seems like a lot of laughs).
I was cracking up when he saw the chairs and started crying. xD And the action shots = WIN.
    • Dude is...well...

You know these two boys have been around my desk for probably 3-4 years. It had only recently occured to me that people acually use them for something other than modelling for artwork ~ no seriously...that is how I bought them and had been living under the illusion (dellusion) that this was their reason d' etre!!

Anyway as the light slowly went on for me...and I mean SLOWLY...as if my brain was on a dimmer switch...I began to pay more attention to them and their potential and finally realized that after all these years they really had evolved their own personalities ...Dude really is the slightly emotional, smarter than he lets on kinda guy.

Monk is a sarcastic, highly opinionated individual who is the source of much of the trouble they get into. He just thinks about things too much...but rarely very deeply.

Thanks for the kind words. This is a whole new world I've thrown myself into (or is it that they are conspiring to drag me down??)...and it's letting me mix and match various interests that I have which is such a blast. It's nice to find others around here that are equally interested in dolls...regardless of size. :)
  • You're having way too much fun with this^_^
    • Don't you know it! *wicked grin*

On a serious note though ~ I was reading in the forum (lurking) a discussion about reborns.

*0__o!??! What is das? Reborns? Reborning? Eh!!

I know you have trouble with online vids so I will recommend you go read THIS wiki article about these lifelike baby dolls and if you can watch it, check out the documentary snippet at the bottom called My Fake Baby.

..for everything I said about those smex dolls...I have to sit down and shut up now. People of all ilks have genuine needs for love of some shape or form...and this love certainly takes more forms than I ever imagined.

Is the emotion and / or energy we pour into a doll....1/6 or life-sized any different than that which we pour into fanart or fanfiction? I don't think so...it all serves a need.

*utterly fascinated by people and the way they cope right now*

Okaaaay. That's seriously disturbing no matter how I look at it. The sex dolls might have satisfied a mostly physical need, but these reborn dolls (and the very name is telling) are no different than an ordinary doll being clutched by a grief-stricken mother. Of course this is only my opinion. But I don't think the purpose or act of collecting anime/victorian dolls or figures is anything like these specialised dolls. These dolls serve as a stop-gap for people with... I hesitate what word I should use here but I don't think these dolls are the solution to whatever problem its owners are having. In the long run it might lead to more severe problems.
        • They were discussing the documentary on a BBC talkshow and a psychologist had a very interesting point to make (and he's a man ...generally the men mock this).

He said that for the most part the women aren't using them as substitutes but rather as a way to find calm ~ because mother nature releases a cascade of hormones (endorphines?) that just make a mother feel better when she is cuddling a sleeping baby and lots of owners of the fake babies just come home after a long day at work, sit down on the couch to watch television and hold their babies for an hour ....sort of a natural way to trigger the bodies calming chemicals instead of drinking alcohol or something else.

I found that part utterly fascinating. Mind you ...there are those that use them as substitute babies for reasons that are a bit beyond my grasping or perhaps considering healthy....still, to use one as a way to relax it makes total sense (since I recall what it's like to have my own babies sleep on my lap and the strange feeling of happiness that come over you)......

          :)

It reminds me of monkeys that are taken from their mothers and how they crave dolls to hug or cling to...it think it's in our nature to do that...we need the tactile stimulation on some level to get our sense of equalibrium.

...still..I wonder what this saysabout our society?
      • Sorry, that was me above.
        • Heh...yeah sometimes I forget to sign in goo >D
